What is the difference between the MiniMed® Paradigm® 522 and 722 insulin pumps?

The difference between the MiniMed® Paradigm® 522 and 722 pumps is the size of the insulin reservoir. The MiniMed® Paradigm® 522 pump can accommodate a 176 unit reservoir, which holds 176 units of insulin, while the MiniMed® Paradigm® 722 pump can accommodate both the 176 unit reservoir and a larger 300 unit reservoir, which holds 300 units of insulin.

How do I know which MiniMed® Paradigm® pump is right for me?

The MiniMed® Paradigm® 522 pump is ideal for people who require less than 50 units of insulin a day. The MiniMed® Paradigm®722 pump was designed for those who use more than 50 units of insulin a day. There are several considerations when choosing your pump model size such as your current total daily insulin dose, planning a pregnancy or the growth and development of a child.

How small is the pump?

About the size of a pager. The 522 model measures 5 x 7.6 x 2 centimeters and weighs only 100 grams with a full reservoir. The 722 model is slightly larger, measuring 5 x 9 x 2 centimeters and weighing 108 grams with a full reservoir.

Can I swim or bathe while wearing a Medtronic insulin pump?

The pump has been designed to be water resistant, which means it can withstand an accidental dunk in water or a splash but any pump can develop minor cracks from day to day wear that could lead to issues if you submerge your pump for extended periods of time. Because our infusion sets make it convenient to connect or disconnect from the pump, you can easily remove the pump for bathing or swimming.

What is the difference between the MiniMed® Paradigm® 522/722 insulin pump and the MiniMed® Paradigm® 515/715 insulin pump?

The MiniMed® Paradigm® 522/722 offers all the same features of the 515/715 series - plus, the 522/722 is also REAL-Time Continuous Glucose Monitoring -enabled. You are unable to use REAL-Time CGM technology with the MiniMed® Paradigm® 515/715 insulin pump.
